Our School Organized to Participate in the Ministry of Education New Arts Construction Conference

Net news (article/photo Department of Education Yuchen Wei) On the morning of November 3rd, the National Conference on the Construction of New Arts, sponsored by the Working Group on the Construction of New Arts of the Ministry of Education, was held at Shandong University (Weihai), attended by Yan Wu, Director of the Department of higher Education of the Ministry of Education. The meeting was held in the form of live broadcast, the third conference room of our school’s new office building set up a sub-venue through video link, the school academic affairs office, personnel department, quality education center responsible and (involving new liberal arts major) related secondary college dean, vice president, dean and backbone teachers and more than 30 people attended.

At the meeting, Director Yan Wu made a keynote report entitled “Building momentum, seeking change, comprehensively promoting the construction of new liberal arts”, which deeply analyzed the new situation facing the development of higher education in China from the international and domestic perspectives. He pointed out that the key words of the Fifth Plenary session are “change”and “high quality”, and only innovation can change the strain and achieve high quality development. Director Wu also interprets the fundamental task, mission, requirement and strategy of the new liberal arts construction from three aspects: the new situation of higher education, the new era of improving quality and the new development of liberal arts education. He stressed that the integration of new arts and new engineering, new agriculture and new medicine is the key to leading the overall revitalization of undergraduate courses and promoting the high quality development of higher education. In the speech session, leaders and experts from Shandong University, Renmin University of China, Peking University, Sun Yat-sen University and other universities made exchange speeches around the construction of new liberal arts in different fields.

The meeting summed up the importance of the construction of new liberal arts, recognized the influence of the new liberal arts on the overall development of science, engineering, agricultural and medical education and higher education, highlighted the importance of promoting the construction of new liberal arts in accordance with the three basic principles of innovation, value guidance and classification, grasped the professional optimization, curriculum quality improvement and model innovation, and to grasp the “four key breakthroughs” of China’s political and legal practice lecture, China’s news communication lecture, China’s economic lecture, and China’s art lecture, and to train applied and composite liberal arts talents to meet the requirements of the new era. Our school will conscientiously study, gather consensus, act quickly, link the learning harvest with the actual work, constantly optimize the professional structure and talent training model, and promote the high quality development of the school with solid actions.
