Jizhou Ren , born on November 7th, 1924, is a native of Pingyuan County, Shandong, a Chinese grassland agricultural scientist, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the founder of China's grassland science. In 1948, he graduated from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of National Central University (now Nanjing Agricultural University). From 1948 to 1950, he studied under Professor Wang Dong, the founder of Chinese grassland science, specializing in forage. In 1950, he was invited by Academician Sheng Tongsheng to teach at the National Veterinary College (now Gansu Agricultural University), and successively served as the director of the Animal Husbandry Department and the Grassland Department of Gansu Agricultural University, and the vice president of Gansu Agricultural University. In 1981, he founded the Gansu Provincial Institute of Grassland Ecology and served as its first director. In 1992, he served as the honorary dean and doctoral supervisor of the College of Prataculture, Gansu Agricultural University. In 1995, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. In 2002, he served as the honorary dean and doctoral supervisor of the College of Grassland Agricultural Science and Technology of Lanzhou University. Jizhou Ren has been engaged in grassland research for a long time. The field of "agricultural ethics" has been opened. He has established four courses, including "Grassland Science", "Grassland Survey and Planning", "Grassland Ecological Chemistry" and "Grassland Agroecology", majoring in grassland science in China's higher agricultural colleges, and has successively edited and published the unified textbook of the same name.

He is the author of 13 monographs such as "General Theory of Grassland Agro-Ecosystem", and the editor-in-chief of the "Encyclopedia of China" and "Encyclopedia of Chinese Agriculture" grassland and pasture parts, and the editor-in-chief of the "Dictionary of Grassland Industry" is considered to be a landmark project for the development of grassland science in China.

Ren Jizhou created the integrated classification method of grassland climate-land-vegetation, which pioneered the inclusion of atmospheric factors in the grassland classification system. He has made outstanding contributions to China's grassland education, and is the earliest doctoral supervisor of grassland science in China, one of the founders of modern grassland science in China, and an academic leader of the national key disciplines of grassland science.
