Net news (Article/Photos by Qiuhao Ye from the Career Guidance Center) On the evening of October 10th, the "Alumni Lecture Hall" hosted by the school's Career Guidance Center was held via the E-goose Live Platform. Mingchen Gu, an outstanding alumnus of the 2025 Internet of Things Engineering major and current Western Plan Volunteer, was invited to give a thematic sharing titled "The Progressive Path from Speech Fear to Communication Confidence", attracting nearly 6,000 student participants online.
Taking "Breakthrough—Morning Practice—Courage—Dream" as the main line, Mingchen Gu carried out the sharing combined with her personal university growth experience. In the "Breakthrough" section, she deeply analyzed the two major sources of speech fear—insufficient self-cognition and environmental pressure—and put forward practical methods such as "preparing content in depth", "repeated simulation training" and "learning to block out the audience" to help everyone overcome psychological barriers. She encouraged junior students: "You can be introverted or slow-warming, but when it's your turn to get on stage, you must be brave."
In the "Morning Practice" part, she talked about the turning point from fear to confidence in herself and emphasized the importance of continuously improving expression and communication abilities through persistent practice. Later, with the theme of "Courage", she encouraged students to actively seek display platforms, transfer speech abilities to diverse stages such as debate competitions, event hosting, community practice and volunteer services, so as to expand personal abilities. Finally, she ended with "Dream", shared the mental journey of embarking on the road of Western Volunteer Service, and called on students to "go to the places where the country and people need them most" and interpret youth responsibility with practical actions.
During her time at school, Mingchen Gu performed excellently. She has won the National Inspirational Scholarship twice, honorary titles such as "Chongqing Advanced Individual in Spiritual Civilization Construction" and "Chongqing University of Technology Speech Star"; she has won the first prize in the Chongqing University Student Debate Competition for two consecutive years, the second prize in the First National University Student Career Planning Competition (Chongqing Division), and has accumulated more than 30 awards in speech competitions inside and outside the school, and independently operated a speech script studio.
The content of this lecture is detailed and has received a warm response, which has effectively improved the communication and expression abilities and career planning awareness of our school's students. The "Alumni Lecture Hall" series of activities have built a valuable exchange platform for current students and alumni by inviting outstanding alumni to share their growth experiences and career stories. Next, the Career Guidance Center will continue to carry out such activities to help students expand their career horizons and scientifically plan their future development paths.
