Our Students Shine in the 2025 "FLTRP · Guocai Cup" Chongqing University Students' Multilingual International Communication Competence Competition

Our reporter (Text/Photos by Liu Huang from the Basic College) — From October 25 to 26, the 2025 "FLTRP · Guocai Cup" "Understanding Contemporary China" Chongqing University Students' Multilingual International Communication Competence Competition concluded successfully at Sichuan International Studies University. 11 contestants selected by our university’s Basic College competed alongside over 300 undergraduate and postgraduate students from 27 local universities. All of our participants won municipal bronze awards, fully demonstrating the comprehensive literacy of our students in foreign language application and international communication.

Organized by the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission and hosted by Sichuan International Studies University, the competition is co-sponsored by multiple institutions including the Teaching Guidance Committee for Foreign Language and Literature Majors in Chongqing’s Regular Undergraduate Universities and the Teaching Guidance Committee for Public Basic Courses in Chongqing’s Regular Undergraduate Universities. It is one of the key events in Chongqing’s foreign language education sector. With the theme "Understand China, Connect the World," the competition aligns closely with the era’s demand to "tell Chinese stories well and serve international communication." It guides contestants to deeply grasp the core essence of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, showcasing the unique charm of China’s path, governance, and principles through language competition.

As a platform to evaluate foreign language teaching outcomes in universities, the English section of the competition includes four categories: Comprehensive Ability, Written Translation, Oral Translation, and Public Speaking, which comprehensively assess contestants’ foreign language application, cross-cultural communication, critical thinking, and innovation abilities. Our university attached great importance to this competition, organizing a campus selection in early October, identifying gold, silver, and bronze award winners through multi-round evaluations, and finally selecting 11 outstanding representatives to participate. During the competition, a guidance team led by Fuju Ding and Fei Li from the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Office accompanied the contestants throughout, providing professional guidance and logistical support.

The competition offered students a platform to learn foreign languages, communicate, and showcase themselves. It not only stimulated their enthusiasm for foreign language learning but also helped them recognize areas for improvement in language fundamentals and knowledge breadth. Moving forward, our university will focus on integrating competition and teaching, continuously optimizing the foreign language curriculum system, improving the competition guidance mechanism, and empowering students to better showcase the demeanor of Chinese youth on the international communication stage.
