Net news (text/picture: Zhurou Yang, Basic College) Recently, the final of the 11th National Undergraduate Physics Experiment Competition (Innovation) concluded in Changsha, Hunan. Students of our university competed with top universities across the country such as Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Harbin Institute of Technology. Relying on solid professional skills, innovative experimental design and stable on-site performance, they stood out and finally won 1 first prize, 2 second prizes and several third prizes, setting the best record in the school's competition history.

After the competition, the Basic College attached great importance to it and quickly built a preparation system of "mobilization and selection - tutor empowerment - closed-loop polishing". The instructor team followed up the whole process, providing all-round guidance to students from experimental plan design to optimization, and from competition skills to on-site adaptation. After layers of selection including school competitions and Southwest regional trials, 6 teams successfully stood out and advanced to the national finals. During the half-year preparation, the students gave up holidays and festivals, stayed rooted in the laboratory, focused on improving the stability of the experimental device and the ability to process complex data, broke through themselves in the collision between theoretical analysis and experimental operation, and paved the way to success with persistence and dedication.

As one of the only national physics competitions included in the National University Student Competition Ranking, the National Undergraduate Physics Experiment Competition (Innovation) is a core platform to test the innovative ability of physics students in colleges and universities. The competition is guided by the Physics Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, the Physics Teaching Research Association of National Colleges and Universities, the National College Physics Experiment Teaching Steering Committee, the Physics Professional Teaching Steering Committee of Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education, and the Physics Teaching Committee of the Chinese Physical Society, and hosted by the National College Physics Experiment Competition Organizing Committee and Central South University. It attracted 3,269 teams from 331 universities across the country to compete, and the competition was extremely fierce.

This award not only demonstrated the professional quality and comprehensive ability of our students, but also confirmed the school's educational concept of "promoting learning through competitions and promoting teaching through competitions" and the achievements of physics curriculum teaching reform. In the future, the Basic College will further deepen teaching reform, optimize the innovative practice platform, focus on cultivating students' innovative thinking and practical ability, so that more students can temper themselves and grow into talents in high-level competitions, and deliver more high-quality applied talents for the society.
