Our Students Achieve Outstanding Results in the National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition (Chongqing Division)

Net news(article/picture by School of Fundamentals,Chuntao Deng ), the award winners of the 2025 Higher Education Press Cup National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition (Chongqing Division) were recently announced. This competition is hosted by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education and the Chinese Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and is listed in the "National College Student Competition Rankings". It is the largest mathematical modeling competition in the world, with broad international influence. This year’s competition attracted 18,837 institutions/campuses from countries including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, with 68,311 teams and over 200,000 participants. The Chongqing division brought together 2,039 teams from 60 universities, making the competition extremely fierce. Our students stood out with solid skills and teamwork, winning 1 first prize and 2 second prizes in Chongqing, demonstrating the tangible achievements of our practice-oriented education.

The School of Fundamentals has made the competition a core part of practical teaching reform and innovative talent development, carefully establishing a full-process preparation system of "mobilization and selection — mentor guidance — iterative improvement — simulated practice." The school formed a core teaching team of key faculty members to provide systematic training focusing on competition core modules such as mathematical statistics and operations research optimization. Through targeted tutoring, case review, and simulation exercises, the students' modeling thinking and programming practice skills were comprehensively enhanced. During the preparation period, instructors provided continuous guidance from topic selection and model construction to paper writing, delivering precise, full-cycle support to lay a solid foundation for competition success.

To strive for excellence, students voluntarily gave up summer breaks and holidays to dedicate themselves to lab research. Facing abstract mathematical problems and massive data analysis tasks, each team divided work rationally, complemented each other’s strengths, and collided ideas during model derivation, honed their approach in data validation, and built consensus in solution optimization. From formula derivation to paper revisions, from brainstorming to finalizing solutions, students overcame numerous challenges with perseverance, significantly enhancing their ability to solve real-world problems using mathematical methods.

These awards fully recognize the hard work of both teachers and students and exemplify the university’s educational philosophy of "promoting learning through competition, promoting teaching through competition, and promoting reform through competition." They also confirm the remarkable results of mathematics curriculum reform. Moving forward, the School of Fundamentals will continue to deepen practical teaching reform, strengthen the guiding role of subject competitions, focus on cultivating students’ innovative thinking, practical abilities, and teamwork spirit, and provide more high-level development platforms to help nurture application-oriented advanced professionals.
