News Brief (By Nan Zhang, School of General Education, Text/Photos) From November 14 to 16, the finals of the 8th Chongqing College Students Physics Innovation Competition were successfully concluded at Yangtze Normal University. Students from our university, demonstrating solid expertise in physics, innovative design concepts, and seamless teamwork, stood out among numerous outstanding teams. Ultimately, they secured 2 first prizes and 6 third prizes, with both the quantity and quality of awards ranking among the top in similar institutions. This achievement fully showcases the excellent professional competence and outstanding practical innovation capabilities of Chongqing Institute of Engineering students.

As a highly influential brand competition in the field of physics for college students in Chongqing, this year's event was organized by the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, guided by the Chongqing Physics Society, and hosted by Yangtze Normal University. The competition featured two main categories: Production (Scientific and Technological Works) and Thesis, with a focus on evaluating students' innovative thinking in physics, hands-on practical abilities, and teamwork competencies. It attracted over 1,200 teams from 18 universities across the city, including Chongqing University and Southwest University. All participating teams demonstrated strong capabilities, making the competition particularly intense.

To prepare for this year's competition, the College of Basic Sciences attached great importance and made early arrangements by establishing a competition guidance team to efficiently advance mobilization, planning, and organizational work. Under the precise guidance and comprehensive support of the competition guidance team, 16 preparation teams were formed through a combination of voluntary registration and selection assessments. These teams underwent a five-month specialized and systematic pre-competition training program tailored to the competition requirements. The training covered multiple core modules, including theoretical knowledge enhancement, logical structuring of defenses, andsimulation of practical skills. Additionally, multiple rounds of demonstration, optimization, and iterative improvements were conducted on the design proposals of the entries, laying a solid foundation for the students to achieve outstanding results. After multiple rounds of selection and simulated assessments, 8 elite teams were ultimately selected to represent the university in the competition.
During the finals, the participating students from our university, backed by thorough pre-competition preparations, confidently presented their research findings and innovative ideas through physical exhibits of their works, academic poster presentations, and on-site Q&A exchanges. Their comprehensive competence and outstanding innovative capabilities were fully demonstrated, earning unanimous recognition from the panel of judges. These achievements vividly reflect our university's longstanding commitment to the talent cultivation philosophy of "integrating learning with practice and applying knowledge to real-world contexts." They also underscore the positive outcomes of the university's efforts to deepen the reform of talent cultivation models and strengthen the development of students' applied abilities and innovative spirit.Looking ahead, the university will continue to focus on the fundamental mission of "fostering virtue through education," further intensify the reform of teaching and learning approaches, and provide students with broader platforms for innovative practices. We are committed to supporting more Chongqing Institute of Engineering students in scaling new heights in the field of technological innovation and growing into high-quality, innovative talents.
